Fair-faced Class D sound absorbing block
Alphacrete® Acoustic is a revolutionary sound-absorbing masonry block developed to help control acoustic reverberation.
Achieving the right reverberation characteristics is critical to the acoustic performance of an interior space. Alphacrete® Acoustic has been specially developed to offer higher levels of sound absorption than standard masonry block – providing a simple and cost-effective solution to reducing airborne noise and excess reverberation that reduces speech intelligibility and acoustic performance in conventional constructions.
Alphacrete® Acoustic is the only independently-tested masonry block available that meets both the acoustic performance standards for the Department of Education’s Priority School Building Programme (PSBP) and Class D sound absorption levels to BS EN ISO354:2003 ‘The Laboratory Measurement of Random Incidence Sound Absorption’.
Available in both Athena and Corinthian finishes, specifiers and contractors can choose from an extensive choice of colours and special detailing shapes to flexibly create projects with true visual impact.
AG developed the Sporting Green colour to help achieve the requirement as prescribed by Sport England in their design guidance notes (section 5) February 2011. AG’s Sporting Green colour will give sufficient contrast against sporting accessories.
Alphacrete® Acoustic block has been developed using a special aggregate mix and altered geometry. It has been comprehensively independently verified to produce significantly improved sound absorption performance over standard blocks.
A comprehensive selection of special shapes are available for detailing purposes.
Alphacrete® is produced in the UK from locally sourced materials and manufactured with 100% harvested rain water and 100% renewable energy in the production process.

Featuring Architectural Masonry
Let us help you get the most from AG products
During construction, Alphacrete® should be protected from the weather on-site including the covering of completed but uncapped work. These precautions will reduce the likelihood of efflorescence and subsequent lime blooming.
After construction, completed walls should be covered using polythene to provide protection and to prevent uncured blockwork from being saturated. An air gap between the masonry and covers will enable newly built masonry walls to cure. The period this protection is needed will depend on the conditions but in cold wet weather it could be up to several days.
Care should be taken to prevent mortar smearing the surface of the Alphacrete® Masonry Block, as cleaning at a later stage could be difficult and can lead to expensive and time consuming remedial treatments. Prevention is better than cure.
All mortar joints should be well filled to help prevent weeping.
Cavities must be kept clean, as dirty cavities increase the risk of water reaching the inner leaf and can cause cold bridging.
Scaffolding boards should be turned back to avoid unsightly splashing of the work.
Masonry products should not be used if frozen and must be protected from frost and rain prior to construction and stacked on a level area on pallets.
Sand used for mortar production should be assessed for freezing and also be protected from the elements.
Building of architectural masonry should be avoided during severe wind, rain and where air temperatures fall below 2º.
